Session outline

2 x 3 hour sessions exploring how to support people with complex communication needs to access literacy activities and develop literacy skills.

Suitable for

Professionals supporting AAC users in schools or colleges.

You will learn

  • To explore ways in which literacy can be taught to children with complex learning needs.
  • To examine some of the legislation around literacy learning and the importance of providing opportunities for all learners.
  • To identify the skills required for literacy learning.
  • To identify potential barriers for literacy learning for our more complex learners.
  • To consider resources that can be used to facilitate the development of literacy skills for people with complex physical, learning and sensory needs.
