Description

This 2 part online course provides an overview of the theory of play and how we can encourage the use of AAC in a fun, functional way. 

Course aim

To facilitate the development of skills when using AAC, through play. 

You will learn

To consider the importance of play for the development of communication & learning.

To identify 4 potential barriers for children with complex communication & learning needs to engage in play.

To describe different types of play and explore potential AAC resources that can be used.

To consider how we can provide opportunities for children who use AAC to participate in play activities.

Session outline

Session 1: Provides an overview of the theory of play and identifies potential barriers to play for children with complex communication, physical and learning needs.

Session 2: Identified ways in which play activities can be adapted/differentiated to incorporate AAC.
