To introduce the principles of ‘Developing and Using a Communication Book’  and consider who it is suitable for and how to select the appropriate stage.

 

You will learn

Free Taster Session

  • You will gain an overview of the resource and the different stages for the different types of users.

Paid for Course

  • To describe the vocabulary organisation of the DUCB resource

  • To state which level of DUCB would be suitable for an individual and why

  • To manipulate DUCB templates in Boardmaker 7 or InPrint3 to create a communication book.

iPAACks: Level 2 Implementation

  • Aware of vocabulary selection methodologies
  • Able to select and format vocabulary appropriate to the person using AAC, with guidance as appropriate
  • Aware of the importance of selecting vocabulary appropriate for the individual
  • Aware of individual vocabulary needs based on language level, age, culture etc., as well as environmental and participation demands

iPAACks: Level 3 Technology, preparation, adaptation & integration

  • Knowledge of how to create a wide range of low-tech communication resources, using the evidence base to inform activity
  • Able to develop bespoke low-tech AAC systems for a wide range of individuals, taking into consideration access and sensory needs as well as communication abilities

 

Session Outline

Paid for course session outline

Session 1: Provides an interactive webinar exploring when you might introduce a personalised communication book, different ways to organise language, and different methods of retrieval. The session will focus on Ace Centre’s Developing and Using a Communication Book and how to identify and select appropriate vocabulary.

Session 2: Provides an interactive webinar utilising symbol software to create a personalised communication book.

Practitioners working with people who use AAC who are responsible for developing communication resources and enabling use of AAC across different environments.

 

Special Requirements

To take part in the paid for sessions you will need a laptop or desktop computer to install and trial Boardmaker 7 or InPrint3.
